Connect Discord

Connect your Sutando to Discord so it can DM you, reply to @mentions in your server, and exchange files. About 5 minutes: one application in Discord's developer portal, one token in S.space, one pairing code.

Before you start

  • A Discord account. Sign up at discord.com if needed.
  • A Discord server, even one just for you. A bot and a user must share a server before they can DM each other. Create one from the + button in Discord's sidebar; no one else has to join.
  • The S.space desktop app, signed in (download it). Bot tokens are set there, where the engine runs.
1

Create the Discord application

Open the Discord Developer Portal and click New Application. Name it something you'll recognize.

2

Turn on the Message Content intent

In the application's sidebar, click Bot. Under Privileged Gateway Intents, turn on Message Content Intent and save. Without it the bridge stops at startup with PrivilegedIntentsRequired.

You don't need the Server Members intent. The bridge asks for it only when the DISCORD_GUILD_MEMBERS_INTENT setting is on.

3

Copy the bot token into S.space

Still on the Bot page, reset the token so Discord shows it, then copy it.

Keep the bot token private: it grants full access to your bot.

In the desktop app, click your name, pick Agent, and choose Connections under Agents. Under Bridge Channels, paste the token into DISCORD_BOT_TOKEN on the Discord card and click Save. The pill changes to DISCORD_BOT_TOKEN · set. Then restart.

4

Invite the bot to your server

In the developer portal, open OAuth2 → URL Generator. Under Scopes check bot. Under Bot Permissions check View Channels, Send Messages, Send Messages in Threads, Read Message History and Attach Files. Open the generated URL, pick your server, and click Authorize.

5

Pair yourself

Open your server; the bot should be in the member list. DM it (not a channel) and say hello.

With no owner enrolled yet, the bot answers with a pairing request: Pairing request from @you … To approve, run: /discord:access pair <code>. Codes expire after one hour. The command is your Sutando's to run, not yours: give it the code.

Approve the pairing

Discord sent me the pairing code [code]. Please approve it with /discord:access pair so I am the owner of the bot.

Once approved, you are the bot's owner. DM it again and your Sutando replies.

DMs, channels and threads

  • DMs always reach your Sutando once you are paired.
  • In a channel, the bot answers only when @mentioned.
  • In a thread, after one direct @mention the bot follows the thread, so you don't have to mention it each time.
  • Files go both ways: attach them to your message, and your Sutando sends files back.

Letting others in

Anyone not on the access list gets the same pairing prompt, but their code goes to you, the owner, as a DM. Approve it or ignore it. You can also have your Sutando add someone's Discord user ID directly. Only the owner has full access; other people's requests run in a read-only sandbox that can't change anything on your Mac.

Troubleshooting

The bot shows offline or never replies

The desktop app must be running on your Mac; the bridge runs in its engine. Check that the Discord card reads DISCORD_BOT_TOKEN · set. If you reset the token in Discord after pasting it, paste the new one, save, and restart.

The bot replies in DMs but not in channels

Channels need an @mention. In a thread, one @mention is enough.

"PrivilegedIntentsRequired" in the bridge log

Do step 2, then restart. Ask your Sutando to read the Discord bridge log if you want to check.

I got "Pairing required" but no code

The code only goes somewhere private: your own DM on a fresh install, the owner's DM after that. If the owner's DM couldn't be reached, ask your Sutando to find the pending code and approve it.
